In partnership with The Abbe Center for Community Mental Health, Metro Care Connection offers mental health counseling for Cedar Rapids Community School District students. Seven Abbe Center therapists share the responsibility of serving the entire district, traveling to each school throughout the week. Counseling can be provided on an individual or group basis. Group topics have included: anger management, friendship and social skills, and self-esteem.
School-based Abbe counseling is provided at no cost. The Abbe Center will accept third party payments but no one will be turned away due to lack of insurance or inability to pay.
In order to receive mental health counseling through Metro Care Connection, students must have a completed Abbe Permission to Treat form signed by a parent/guardian. This form is available from the school counselor, school nurse (or health secretary), or by calling 558-2481.
